The Unladylike Lab: jazz workshop for female/genderqueer identifying instrumentalists
Workshop 1: Sunday October 19, 10.00am-1.00pm, Brisbane Jazz Club
Workshop 2: Sunday November 2, 11.30am-2.00pm, JMI, with a performance at 3.00pm
Learn from renowned Australian jazz musicians Gemma Farrell (WA), Cassie Whitehead, Angela Santamaria and Kellee Green at workshops designed to help you unlock your creativity and improve your jazz skills.
These workshops are open to high school instrumentalists with intermediate to advanced instrumental skills who identify as female/genderqueer. During workshops you’ll play jazz standards, develop improvisation skills and learn how to communicate musically with other ensemble members. The workshops culminate in a gig at JMI as part of the Brisbane International Jazz Festival.
Spaces are limited so we recommend booking early.
This workshop series is presented by the Unladylike Big Band and the Brisbane International Jazz Festival, with support from the Brisbane Jazz Club, Talkin’ Jazz and JMI.
The program is designed as a series of two workshops culminating in a live concert - please note that bookings for individual workshops are not available. The application fee is inclusive of all workshops and concert entry on Sunday November 2.
The Brisbane International Jazz Festival acknowledges the Turrbal and Jagera people as the Traditional Custodians of Meanjin, on which we have the privilege to make music. We recognise their long history of music making and continuing connection, to the land and waters.
