Art As Catharsis has teamed up with Brisbane International Jazz Festival to present an evening of eclectic, forward thinking improvised music.

We are thrilled to have Martin Kay's Forage performing alongside Yass & Rebecca Lloyd-Jones

//Martin Kay's Forage

Martin Kay, composer, improviser and saxophonist, leads this troupe of the most fantastical musicians. It is rare you will hear such a heady brew, such herby goodness. As a forager, I love this uncategorised biodiversity. The foundation of the sound is two double basses - a two-tree process - with drums and piano and a tractor of alto sax, tenor sax, trombone. Visceral rhythmic jigsaws and sonic baths shift matter, swirling molecules. The musicians take to the structures with hoses, secateurs, chainsaws and dabs of cotton wool. With great care the manicured lawn becomes unkempt. Between Messiaen's tone-hoes and emergent free gardening, epic topiaries of form are shaped, inspired by wonderful garden pets such as the Fugu, Ligeti's Goat, Thrice Mice, and our vagrants at the end of the row: Pedestrians of Steel.

//Yass

Yass, NSW (2582) is the experimental duo of Yvette Ofa Agapow and Skylar Sansome. They are frequenters of the meanjin noise and experimental scenes and find themselves performing around the continent.

//Rebecca Lloyd-Jones

Australian-born percussionist Rebecca Lloyd-Jones is a multiform musician, passionate about performance, research, and education.

Having performed professionally across Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania, Rebecca has presented as a soloist at several focus days for the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and attended the Roots and Rhizomes program held at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Canada.

Active across many genres, Rebecca has performed on the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage in conjunction with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Noon to Midnight marathon new-music festival, at the BBC Proms, Concertgebouw Concert Hall, and The National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing, with the Australian Youth Orchestra.

Rebecca will be presenting a performance oriented around her explorations exploring the solo-percussion format.
