Emie R Roussel Trio (Canada)
Winner of the Félix at l'ADISQ for the 2015 jazz album of the year, which honoured Quantum, their 3rd CD, and the 2013-14 Opus prize for jazz album of the year with their preceding release, TRANSIT, the Emie R Roussel Trio is now an unstoppable force in the current Canadian jazz scene, having experienced a dizzying ascent since 2010.
With Emie R Roussel on piano (Révélation Radio-Canada Jazz 2014-2015), Nicolas Bédard on bass and Dominic Cloutier on drums, the trio delivers creative and captivating jazz with passion and undeniable chemistry. Also garnering special mention from the jury at the TD Grand Jazz Award for the 34th Montreal Jazz Fest and winning the Coup de cœur du public 2013 at Festi Jazz international de Rimouski, in recent years, the group has been doing more and more concerts in Canada and making its mark around the world, winning admiration in ten countries and on four continents.
In 2014, during a tour of Australia and New Zealand, they performed at the Melbourne Women's International Jazz Festival and in the cities of Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland and Wellington. In 2015, the trio went on a European tour that took them to Italy, Estonia and France. They also presented Quantum in the U.S. and Mexico. In the fall of 2015, the Emie R Roussel Trio was back in Europe at the invitation of festivals Éclats d'Émail in Limoges and Jazzy Colors in Paris. In 2016, following the invitation of the Canadian Independant Music Association (CIMA), the trio presented a concert during Jazzahead in Bremen, Germany. A few months later, the trio completed a first Japan tour with five concerts in Tokyo and Yokohama.
In fall 2016, the group went for a third European tour, bringing them at the famous Duc des Lombards in Paris and at the Festival Jazz à Verviers in Belgium in addition to present a concert in Torino, Italy. Since its release, their album Quantum (Effendi records 2015) has been getting rave reviews (Jazz News and Jazz Magazine (France), Jazz Perspective (Japan), Ici Musique, Radio-Canada, La Presse (Canada), JazzWax (United States), etc., hitting the top of the charts (iTunes, Ici Musique, sortiesjazznights.com and Rreverb) and receiving a very warm welcome both in Canada and internationally. The Emie R Roussel Trio stands out because of its unique musical universe, a blend of their many influences. The release of the Emie R Roussel Trio’s fourth album is scheduled for September 2017.
